“MY JOURNEY
I am currently 39 and have been trying to conceive a child since 2009 at the age of 38. I got pregnant the first time very quickly and pretty much without trying. My husband and I were ecstatic; however we lost it at 6 weeks. We again got pregnant, pretty quickly in March, but lost it in May. In August of 2010, we decided to see a reproductive endocrinologist. The testing revealed that everything was normal with both my husband and I. Our losses and difficulty were simply chalked up to bad luck and being of an older age. We began trying to conceive again in August. Our attempts were unsuccessful. Now under a great deal of stress, due to work related issues, not getting pregnant, not getting any younger and not knowing what could be wrong, I decided to see an acupuncturist. I was in search of an acupuncturist that specialized in infertility, but also would be able to alleviate the anxiety and stress I was dealing with. I searched the web and found Dr. Michael Bennett of Metropolitan Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine. From the first day I spoke with Dr. Bennett on the phone, I knew it was a good fit. He has a calm and soothing personality and is very down to earth. I also found comfort in the fact that he and his wife went down a similar path, resulting in success, thankfully! I felt he understood my despair and would not take advantage of it. During my first visit, Dr. Bennett took the time to listen to my story and here me out. He showed compassion and understanding for what I was dealing with. I advised him that I was seeking help with not only my anxiety and stress, but also with my unexplained infertility. I met with Dr. Bennett once a week since October of 2010. During this time, I did find some physical relief but I do believe that acupuncture has a cumulative benefit and the more I go, the better I feel. The benefits of acupuncture do not happen overnight. On another note, when I had a follicle test with my reproductive endocrinologist in August, I had five follicles on each ovary. When I had another follicle check in December, after seeing Dr. Bennett for about two months, my reproductive endocrinologist saw many more follicles and was happily surprised, as was I.
I am happy to say, that on January 15, I did get a positive pregnancy test and continued my acupuncture sessions with Dr. Bennett hoping that paying for fertility medications are a thing of the past. Dr. Bennett has truly been one of the most positive supporters that I have met along my difficult conception journey. His attitude, compassion, sympathy, knowledge, and treatments have assisted me in conceiving this pregnancy.
