Drew Tortoriello, M.D. , Medical Director and Reproductive Endocrinologist of SIRM-NY had this to say about Michael Bennett, L.Ac., Acupuncture Director of Metropolitan Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine:

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Michael on a personal and professional basis for the last 4 years, and I can tell you in all honesty that I have never met a gentleman with more integrity and compassion.  Having witnessed how miraculous an effect acupuncture had on a loved one, Michael altered his path in life to pursue a career in acupuncture and Asian medicine.  Consistent with his driven personality, he rapidly became quite simply one of the best practitioners of Eastern Medicine in New York. I have seen what beneficial effects his skills can exert on both fertility and other illnesses, and he is a vital adjunct to the assisted reproductive techniques that I do.  I am very proud to call him both a friend and colleague.”

Acupuncture for Infertility

42 and trying to get pregnant…

“I wanted to share my good news.  I am pregnant…I want to say thank you because I definitely think seeing [Michael] for the acupuncture sessions helped!

“After spending countless months trying to get pregnant through iui fertility treatments, I scheduled my first acupuncture appointment with Michael Bennett. I was in the process of recovering from amiscarriage over the holidays. I was stressed and anxious trying toget pregnant again with my first child plus working full time runninga busy manufacturing company. I began treatment and immediatelyfound it very relaxing. I was impressed with his warm and professional demeanor and looked forward to my appointments. I am happy to say that after completing a series of sessions, I had a successful IVF acupuncture pregnancy!!!”

Acupuncture for Weight Loss

“[N]ow, I am a believer!  Each [acupuncture] session helped me feel relaxed and calm.  After my sessions, I actually felt more centered.  And, unbelievably, my cravings for chocolate have decreased.  For the first time, I can look at a dessert menu without temptation.  I haven’t overeaten since starting my acupuncture treatments.  I am thrilled that I gave acupuncture a chance and will be continuing my treatments.  I even lost a few pounds along the way!

Of course, you need to make sure you find a good acupuncturist.  I visited Michael Bennett, who has degrees in both acupuncture and Chinese/herbal medicine.  Michael’s office is in Manhattan (Fifth Avenue at 38th Street).  If you would like to use my acupuncturist, give him a call.”

Acupuncture for Back Pain and Hip Pain

i am a working actress and musician and i spend a lot of time on the road. this means i do a lot of carrying heavy bags, equipment and assorted instruments. I came to metropolitan acupuncture on the recommendation of my massage therapist, to find relief for a back and hip problem that had been bothering me for more than a year. i was told by my therapist that the doctor there is truly interested in his patients and does a thorough job of assessment of your malady each time at every visit, really spending time with you. well, this couldn’t be more true. i have seen a number of acupuncturists in new york city, been assessed, then hurried in and out with little to no interaction. from the first visit, i felt very comfortable and i got the impression that michael really cared about getting me well!… he follows through and made sure i stayed with the treatment. and, i am happy to report, that after my third session, i had my first pain free day in more than a year. apparently the “traffic jam” in my back was clearing up and the stiffness in my hip and leg was feeling a lot better. now, weeks after my treatment was completed, i am still feeling great and even started ballroom dancing classes! thank you, metropolitan acupuncture!”

Acupuncture for Crohn’s Disease Symptoms

“I am a 39 year old female and I have a history of Crohn’s disease. I was diagnosed 10 years after a bowel perforation.  For the last 10 years I have been battling to control my symptoms which include abdominal pain, burning and frequent loose stool.  Although I avoid foods that are known to trigger flare ups and have been actively exercising.  There have been times that seemed that just about anything would bring on a flare.  I also started to notice that in the last 6 months they seem to be accruing more frequently due to stress.

I have done acupuncture in the past for other reasons (pain management) and decided to try for my Crohn’s.

After one session with Michael my symptoms have almost disappeared. My stress level has reduced. So much so that now I’m worried if he did too much of a good job ( ha ha).”

Acupuncture for Fibromyalgia

“I am writing this testimonial in the hopes it may help other Fibromyalgia patients.  I am a middle aged woman, and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about ten years ago. I remained under the care of a well respected internal medical doctor with a specialty in Fibromyalgia and had followed all his treatment recommendations, with no success. I tried various medications like Elavil, Neurontin, etc, and was very reluctant to try the newer meds because of the weight gain that usually resulted. I found that Physical Therapy actually made my muscle aches even worse and the pains in my arms, neck and back, made it especially difficult to drive the long distances my job required. I would wake up after “sleeping” for 8 hours, feeling like a MAC truck had run over me.  I lived in constant fear that I would have to go on disability because I could not do my job.  I asked my doctor if he could recommend any alternative treatment and he advised me to try acupuncture.  I went to see Michael Bennett and immediately was impressed by his ability to put me at ease and how much he seemed to know about Fibromyalgia.  He said he thought he could help me, but never made any promises.  All he asked me to do was to trust him and follow his treatment plan.  Initially, I began with treatments three times a week.  By the end of the second week, I felt about 70% better.  By the end of the first month about 90%.  I continued to see him as recommended and I could not believe that there were days when I didn’t feel any pain or any fatigue.  Eventually, my treatments were reduced to once a week and now I only see him as needed.  I feel 100% improved and no longer worry about not being able to work.  My life has been given back to me and I am eternally grateful for this caring, skilled, acupuncturist who gave me back my former quality of life. He is a credit to his profession and I recommend that you put your trust in him as I did.  You will not be disappointed.”

Acupuncture for Headaches

“Michael,

“My headache was already dissipating as I was leaving your office and must have slipped out of my acupuncture holes entirely on the walk to school.  I am headache-free without having had to resort to any more tylenol today… and very grateful to you for it.

“Thank you.”
